The City of Edgerton receives a grant to replace private lead laterals

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources awards the City of Edgerton with a $651,000 grant to replace private lead laterals. City of Edgerton City Administrator Ramona Flanigan says the city’s goal is to remove all lead in their system so no one has lead hazards in their drinking water. Flanigan says if cities don’t do this, they’ll have to add a chemical into the water to inhibit lead leaching. She says, when all lead laterals are replaced in Edgerton, they won’t have to add chemicals to their water, which is a benefit from many aspects. The project is expected to begin construction within the next month, but inspections have been occurring for a few years. According to a news release, if you live in a neighborhood with older homes, an inspection should be scheduled as soon as possible.
