Concerned citizens in Beloit spark the City Council to take action.
Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Lock says the City Council is introducing an ordinance on Monday night that prohibits the sale of cats, dogs, and rabbits for profit.
Lock says there are concerns about large-scale breeding operations that raise animals in inhumane conditions.
According to a City memo the State or Illinois prohibits the commercial sale of dogs and cats which could lead to Beloit becoming a destination for unregulated breeders.
The City Council will hear a first reading of the ordinance change when they meet on Monday night.
