School in Milton might be in session a little bit sooner than normal next school year.
Director of Curriculum and Instruction Ryan Ruggles says the district is applying for a special waiver that would allow them to start on Tuesday August 29th instead of Friday, September 1st.
Ruggles says the hope is that starting a little bit earlier would help the district address social-emotional learning, provide earlier learning interventions as needed, and help avoid redoing all the routines the following Tuesday after a three day holiday weekend.
Ruggles says if the waiver is denied, the district will come up with a couple of calendars, one with the normal start date of September 1st, and another with a later start date of Tuesday, September 5th.
The school district expects to know in the next few weeks whether or not their waiver is approved.
