Longest-tenured Janesville City Council member to run again this spring

|By Big Radio News Staff |
Paul Williams has served on Janesville’s city council 16 years. He’s decided to try to extend that to 18 years.
Williams is among three council members whose seats are up for the spring election, including Aaron Burdick and council President Paul Benson. As of late this week, Williams is the first to officially declare his candidacy.
Williams is the longest-tenured council member at a time when the city of Janesville is under leadership of a new city manager and, soon, a new police chief. He says he wants to stay on board to guide the city in big economic stakes it holds in the proposed Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center, and in redevelopment prospects for the vacant former General Motors property.
Williams says he’s enjoyed serving the last two years on a city council with members who show decorum and seem to respect each other, something he said has grown rarer for some in higher political office.
Anyone who’s declared candidacy for the council can begin circulating petitions today.
