DOT plans roundabout at Highway 14 and N. Harmony Townhall Road in Janesville

It’s a few years off, but the Wisconsin DOT plans another roundabout on Highway 14 on Janesville’s northeast edge.
Residents who live on the northeast side can sound off Tuesday on the DOT’s plans to resurface a mile and a half of Highway 14 from near Wright Road to just south of East County MM.
As part of that project, the DOT is proposing a new roundabout to round out where Highway 14 curves south at North Harmony-Townhall Road. It would replace an angled t-intersection where Harmony-Townhall Road joins Highway 14.
It’s not clear if the DOT plans to rework another t-intersection where Old Humes Road joins Highway 14, providing a frontage link to a local farm implement dealership. Old Humes, Harmony Townhall and Highway 14 join in a triangle-type intersection where Highway 14 turns from east to south.
The roundabout would come alongside a reconfiguration planned at County A and Highway 14, which the DOT says had seen 17 crashes between 2016 and 2020. One of the crashes at A was fatal, the DOT says.
The resurfacing, the new roundabout at Harmony Townhall Road, and the reworking at County A would come in 2027.
Real estate acquisition starts next fall. DOT project images show an easement that would cut into a frontage lane that serves a liquor store and the former Pine Tree Inn motel off Highway 14.
The stretch sees 9,000 to 11,300 vehicles a day, the DOT says.
Residents can learn more about the overall plan and sound off on it at a public engagement forum from 4:30 to 6 p.m. (Tuesday) at Harmony Town Hall, 440 Highway 14, Janesville.
