Clinton Schools plan referendum

A local school district is turning to a referendum to fill a need officials say has been growing for years.  The Clinton Community School District authorized the referendum Monday night.  School Board President Ken Luety says the district has taken significant steps over the years to reduce expenses, but further reductions will impact the ability to meet the educational needs of students.  He adds, the district is operating under the same revenue cap and aid distribution it had 12-years ago.  The recurring measure would gradually increase the school district’s revenue limit over a four-year period, beginning as a $450 thousand increase in the first year.  The cap would then increase by that same amount over the following three years, ending at $1.8 million.  That increase would then remain in effect.  Officials say the tax impact of the referendum would be offset by reducing debt payments on the high school built in 2000.
