HOMETOWN: Burlington, WI…and I’m still living there today.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN RADIO?
Shortly before my high school years began, an over-the-air radio station, WBSD-FM, signed on at Burlington High School. I joined the staff, and have been involved in radio—on and off—ever since. BTW, WBSD was the launching point for many like me who entered careers in radio and communications. Many of those WBSD alumni worked together to get the station’s founder, Burlington High teacher Terry Havel, inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation Hall of Fame in 2008. It was a heartfelt “thank you” gesture to a man who serves as a broadcast mentor to us, even to this day.
HOBBIES:
Trying to learn Spanish through an app, word games, being a bottomless pit of useless information (i.e., trivia), cooking.
FAVORITE “CELEBRITY” ENCOUNTER:
When I hosted a program focused on seventies music and culture on a Lake Geneva radio station, I scheduled a 30-minute interview with legendary Milwaukee Bucks broadcaster Eddie Doucette in observance of the 40th anniversary of what was then the Bucks’ only NBA championship. That scheduled half-hour stretched to an hour and a half, and Mr. Doucette was more than willing to extend that interview time because our conversation was energizing both of us. How gracious and giving of him to go the extra mile like that, and what a wonderful experience it was for me to have been granted it from a genuine broadcast legend.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU WEREN’T IN RADIO?
Starving.
